Financial Literacy Service Corps

Our employee-led train-the-trainer model is designed to provide Synchrony employees with the tools necessary to help ignite passion for financial literacy in their communities. Employees partner directly with community organizations to deliver interactive, practical financial literacy workshops and lessons, equipping students with the real-world skills necessary to build a secure financial future.

Free Financial Counseling for America’s Teachers

Synchrony is investing in the teachers helping our students by providing free financial counseling services specifically for U.S. public school teachers through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and Operation HOPE. Eligible teachers can access these resources at the links below:

National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC): Founded in 1951, the NFCC is the oldest nonprofit dedicated to improving people’s financial well-being. With more than 1,200 NFCC-certified credit counselors serving 50 states and all U.S. territories, eligible teachers can connect directly with an NFCC counselor for personalized, one-on-one guidance, whether that’s managing student loan debt, navigating housing challenges, or creating a structured debt repayment plan. Operation HOPE: Since its inception 1992, Operation HOPE’s mission has been to expand economic opportunity, making free enterprise work for everyone. Eligible teachers can connect directly with an Operation HOPE financial wellbeing coach. Coaches will meet with teachers individually to go over their personal goals, whether they want to improve credit, reduce debt, manage money, or build wealth. Building on these established relationships helps support the long-term sustainability of the labs and programming, while proximity supports employee volunteer engagement, including guest teaching through Synchrony’s Financial Literacy Service Corps. Finally, we evaluate the school’s readiness to implement a dedicated personal finance learning space and partner-supported training.

The Financial Literacy Service Corps is an employee-led, volunteer-powered train-the-trainer model. Synchrony employees learn to facilitate personal finance workshops in schools, community centers, with business partners, and through local community organizations—aiming to simplify finance and show how everyday choices like budgeting can open doors to opportunity.
